WEBCommentary(tm) - Captain Obama’s Rudderless Ship

President Obama or shall I use the metaphor he used describing himself as the “Captain” of a ship during a segment on 60 minutes last Sunday with Steve Kroft on December 11, 2011, while using a typical analogy with a twist describing our current economic woes. His overall bloviating analysis of his leadership capabilities during his first term as President was simply predictable blaming others again for the failing stagnate economic recovery; except this time he used the stormy oceans he inherited.

Despite all the recorded historical charts other great Captains/Presidents took to correct our ships direction after they inherited the various storms leading us to successful calm waters, Captain Obama on the other hand continues to sail our ship directly into stormier waters. In short, as the current leader of our great Nation he has failed and we are taking on water.

President Obama in his first two years had a Democrat majority in both Houses. So, instead of implementing the correct solutions he used the socialized economic model, Keynesian economics, by spending us into oblivion and taking over segments of our society.

The Keynesian economics has never worked in a “Free Market Economy” such as ours; and apparently Obama and his executive officers are ignoring the socialized governmental catastrophes occurring in Europe’s stormy seas today.

His nearly $1 trillion dollar economic spending stimulus failed and he even admitted that the jobs were not as shovel ready as they thought. What it did do was repay all of Obama’s corporate and union campaign bundlers with our tax dollars.

Obama and his majority, the Democrats, in the beginning promised that the stimulus would create 3 million new jobs and unemployment would not go above 8%. As time slowly crept by and the jobs were not happening they changed their promise to 3 million jobs created or saved.

This is so typical of Leftists. Did they lie to sneak the stimulus through? You be the judge.

Much like “Global Warming” when that wasn’t working they changed the so called crisis to “Climate Change” and when that turned out to be a duh, now it’s “Extreme Weather.” Progressives are good about changing their schemes.

The governments take over bail outs of General Motors and Chrysler failed. Today they are still floundering. All GM did was expand factories in Mexico, Brazil and even China. No American jobs over there! And, according to Heritage Foundation’s “The Foundry” article “Our Economy Can’t Afford More GM Success Stories” on November 19, 2010, taxpayers will lose at least $10 billion dollars; another job killer.

Obama’s “Cash for Clunkers” failed dismally; costing taxpayers estimated in the thousands of needless dollars over the cost for each new vehicle. Plus auto giants Honda, Toyota and Nissan were the hot tickets with Ford trailing behind. In the top ten models sold, Toyota and Honda both had three, Nissan and Hyundai had one each and Ford had the only two American-made vehicles! Another jobs killing idea.

What is commendable Ford refused to take the bailout bait money and since the crisis has had profits in every quarter by simply re-organizing.

Now, the really big loser in “Cash for Clunkers” was the auto parts industry. A major role in this botched deal was to have these clunkers destroyed after they were traded in. So, now the various auto parts companies have parts sitting on the selves collecting dust because of the lack of vehicles to repair. The other losers were the used car sales; no trade-in’s to sell! And, more job killings.

Then we had the partial government takeover of our banks and lending institutions with the “Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act” otherwise known as the "Dodd-Frank Act" signed into law by President Obama on July 21, 2010, with a Senator Dick Durban twist amendment attached that was shuffled in at the last minute.

The Dodd-Frank Act put the skids on our borrowing capabilities and virtually took the wind out of our sails. This law is merely a finger pointing exercise by our Senators and Representatives who used Regulators to their advantage which led to our financial meltdown in 2008; in other words they are covering their butts by blaming others for what they did.

The Act requires that regulators create 243 new rules for banks and other lending institutions in addition to the already thousands of regulatory pages currently on file. Also, with the passage of this Act Obama gets to appoint a comptroller who answers to no one and who oversees the transactions between banks and the consumers, allegedly to protect our best interests; more like “Big Brother” dictating to us who can borrow and when. Since businesses are hampered by this law they are unable to expand, killing more jobs.

Senator Dick Durban’s amendment implemented a cap on banks as to how much they can charge the consumers which caused banks to pass these little tidbits down to us via new ATM, checking and saving accounts fees that used to be free. Remember the Bank of America customers? They are not very happy these days. Furthermore, Visa and MasterCard will be jacking up their rates on small businesses/retailers, so no retail savings for the consumers. It’s called the trickledown effect.

So, in the long run Obama’s executive officers, at his direction, continue to make our ship flounder in these stormy seas.

And now we have Obama Care, the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” the mother of all government intrusions into our personal lives and businesses; “the perfect storm.” Not only does the constitutionally challenged Obama Care cause our personal health care costs to sky rocket, and it has already, Captain Obama’s health care is an economical blunder insuring that jobs will not be created causing our ship to list.

As of March 23, 2010, when Obama Care was signed into law, he and his first mates created a mutiny with over 70% of American’s disapproving of Obama Care; and we still do!

When Republicans took control of the House of Representatives in January 2011, they have submitted over 27 bills to create jobs. However, Captain Obama’s executive officer, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, has blocked these bills by refusing to put them on the floor for a vote. As of today, they are collecting dust on his desk; including our first federal budget in nearly 1000 days since Obama took office!

Because of Captain Obama’s inept leadership abilities and his continuous spending spree our ship is about to cap size with our national debt climbing over $15 trillion dollars.

Recently as last week, Captain Obama voiced his opinion that he would veto the Payroll tax extension if the Keystone oil pipe line was included in the bill. The Keystone oil pipe will create an estimated 100,000 jobs directly and indirectly immediately; and he’s vetoing this all because of a hand full of environmental votes? So, who’s creating these stormy waters?

Over all, Captain Obama and his regime in his three years have taken the wrong course continually steering our ship straight into the storm without do regard for the passengers safety.

And of course throughout his term Captain Obama and his followers continue to divide our country/ship with their “class warfare” rhetoric.

Since the 1920’s we have had historical facts or charts which dictate which course we should take to right the ship. However, Captain Obama ignored these truths and elected to steer our ship in a direction destined for destruction. Was this his “Change we can believe in?”

All Captain Obama had to do is follow the historical footsteps or sail in the directions Presidents Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and even George W. Bush took to right our ship. Their actions by cutting taxes and reducing government spending increased our GDP and lowered unemployment within one to two years to record levels leading our ship to sail into calm waters.

Even with Bush and Congress’s continued spending, his tax cuts created 80 million jobs in two years.

Captain Obama and his first mates elected to take our country/ship into stormy waters. These are his stormy waters and his alone.

What we need to have is another mutiny in 2012 taking over the helm sailing our ship into calm seas. Otherwise, we will soon be joining Gilligan, the Skipper and the S.S. Minnow marooned on a deserted island.
