The ramifications of ACORN and the incident at the Burlington School (and other similar occurrences are coming to light) reach far beyond those situations. America will never be a land of opportunity for all, as long as its population can be successfully divided into “subcultures,” some of which are willing to be herded like sheep.
Of all of the outrages uncovered by James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, who in a sting operation exposed one corrupt “ACORN” office after another by requesting information on how to evade taxes, bring underage foreign prostitutes into the country, and perpetrate other acts of fraud, certainly the most indicting was the commentary by the ACORN worker who warned Giles that if her supposed underlings became educated, they “wouldn’t need her anymore.”
Not knowing that she was on camera, this “community organizer” gave away the dirtiest of the dirty secrets of the left. Herein lies the explanation of how and why major segments of America, particularly in urban areas, upon becoming increasingly liberal over the past several decades, have become more lawless, more hopeless, and more helpless. While claiming to “help the little guy,” liberalism has a vested interest in keeping the “little guy” oppressed and dependent. Only in such a state can he fulfill his intended role as a “resource” of the liberal machine.
Those candid remarks succinctly explain why liberal power brokers, professing the most noble of intentions, doggedly oppose such historically successful programs as school vouchers that would free innumerable children (mostly minorities) from their enslavement to those exorbitantly expensive inner city sewers known as government schools. Once children are enrolled in voucher programs, enabling them to attend private schools, they become better educated, and many would realize that they have no need of the nanny state or its liberal political apparatus. Thus liberated, they might even access the American dream on their own. Clearly, from the perspective of the liberal/Democrat political establishment, this would be an untenable situation.
It behooves the left to preserve the status quo of America’s dismal government schools for other reasons as well. So long as standardized test scores continue to plummet, school officials are able to approach state legislatures with their hands out, demanding increased funds in a phony effort to fix the situation. Yet in truth, no real effort will be made, since actually improving the education of young people would erase the education bureaucracy’s invented “crisis” of falling test scores, thus negating the most valuable tool the government school system has by which to extort ever increasing monies from the public trough.
Along with this scam, the present “educational” regimen in America provides the perfect climate for the sort of indoctrination of impressionable young people that the leftists intend. “Traditional” studies, that might yield a young population able to read, write, count, and recall the realities of their nation’s history are less and less a part of the program. In their place are ideologically driven curricula and activities, often devoid of facts, that are ultimately intended to shape the political/social philosophies of the child.
On the heels of the ACORN outrage was an example of just such laundering of impressionable young brains. In the B. Bernice Young Elementary School in Burlington New Jersey, students were caught on videotape singing eerie songs, reminiscent of something from a thoroughly backward tinhorn dictatorship, offering “praise” and adulation to Barack Obama.
The lyrics made references to “equal pay for equal work,” “everyone lending a hand,” and being “equal in [Obama’s] sight.” Apart from the abominable sense of “worship” of Obama permeating the recitation, long term harm is being done to their perspective on good citizenship. Children who are the product of such indoctrination cannot be expected to ever stand on their own feet or overcome obstacles that life will invariably throw at them. Rather, they will reflexively look to the government to allay all of their fears and remedy all of their problems.
It is likely that those pitiable students are completely unaware that, only this last July, America celebrated the fortieth anniversary of the first successful manned landing on the moon. Being a resounding symbol of America’s greatness, the left has studiously played down or ignored that event and other truly uplifting occurrences in the nation around them. Likewise, such children are given no concept of the enormity of opportunity open to individuals with motivation and initiative in this country. Instead, they are trained to look to their “leaders” to fulfill all of their needs and wants. And if they absorb and adopt such a premise, they are sure to be perennially debilitated and dependent.
This manner of remaking segments of society has been “successful,” at least from the liberal perspective. The hapless and helpless behavior of New Orleans residents upon the approach of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was a grim example. As the storm drew near, major portions of that city’s population, having been long accustomed to an existence of accepting scraps bestowed on them by the “nanny state,” milled around in dazed anticipation, expecting that their beneficent government would take care of them. Yet even after the disastrous results, key officials responsible for the fiasco, such as New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, were handily reelected to subsequent terms of office.
The ramifications of ACORN and the incident at the Burlington School (and other similar occurrences are coming to light) reach far beyond those situations. America will never be a land of opportunity for all, as long as its population can be successfully divided into “subcultures,” some of which are willing to be herded like sheep. Any portion of the population that accepts such a role can expect to be methodically trodden down in perpetuity.
