It seems that the image of Reverend Jeremiah Wright (former pastor of presidential candidate Barack Obama) is being expiated after offending Americans with his inflammatory, bigoted and anti-American words. The divinity wagons have been circled to protect the bombastic preacher in spite of his words.

Brite Divinity School honored and recognized Rev.Wright at their fourth annual State of the Black Church Awards Banquet for his 40-year ministry linking divine justice with social justice.

Members of Brite's theological teaching staff praised the rantings of Rev. Wright during an interview by a Fox News reporter from Greta Van Susteren's show, On the Record. They also asserted that white America should not be shocked by his words and maintained that black churches and their congregations agreed with him.

The Brite Divinity scholars took a huge stretch as well as conveying an untruth; other Christian denominations would have defrocked the likes of Rev. Jeremiah Wright and sent the audacious man packing.

It was truly regrettable and unsettling hearing black theologians try to twist the words of the Bible to fit their own misguided and fixed state of mind. The Word of God would call Black Liberation Theology "accursed."

"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."(Galatians 1:8-9)

Teachers who believe that spreading mistrust amongst others by the way of a theology are false teachers. "There is no light in them." (Isaiah 8:20) Unrighteous anger and bigotry is sinful. There are no excuses for those who willingly teach others that it is perfectly justified to hold onto cherished sins such as hatred. When doing so, pastors misrepresent the character of a loving God and Savior.

True faith, true hope, and true love, all come from God. "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Rom:10:17).

Black Liberation Theology and the Black Power Movement came into vogue in the late 1960s. It has no relevance today. It has no place within Christendom. Man-made Marxist theology is diametrically opposed to the Everlasting Gospel.

Through the legacies of such theologians as James Cone and Dwight Hopkins, the ugly tones of racism continue to be fostered. Black Liberation Theology is only taught within the walls of far left churches.

When the unadulterated word of God is applied, it has the power to remove even what Rev. Wright has accumulated for decades within his heart. It is unfortunate that "the heart is deceitfully wicked." (Jeremiah 17:9). However, the old man of sin (Romans 7:4-6) is fully displayed and without shame at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago; their new pastor teaches the same theology with a hip-hop cadence to his speech. The Reverend Otis Moss lll can rise to the occasion and become just as obnoxious as his predecessor.

Americans have no reason to feel guilty about their country's past. Dr. Martin Luther King led our nation through one of the worst of times, and a healing took place. Today's generation does not need a scolding, or to take part in endless circular dialogues about the evils of racism. We have already confessed our nation's sins to one another.

I shuddered only once while watching Barack Obama's speech last Tuesday.

It wasn't when he posed the rhetorical questions: 'Why associate myself with Reverend Wright in the first place, they may ask? Why not join another church?'

The real question, of course, is not why Obama joined Trinity, but why he stayed there for two decades, in the flock of a pastor who accused the U.S. government of 'inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color,' and who suggested soon after 9/11 that 'America's chickens are coming home to roost.'

But orators often ask themselves the convenient questions, not the difficult ones. And Barack Obama is an accomplished orator.

Nor was I shocked when Obama compared Reverend Wright, who was using his pulpit to propagate racial resentment, with his grandmother, who may have said privately a few things that made Obama cringe, or with Geraldine Ferraro, whom "some have dismissed ... as harboring some deep-seated bias."

But ambitious men sometimes do a disservice to the best in their own communities. And Barack Obama is an ambitious man. The last thing we need now is a heated national conversation about race. Full Article

There is an old and wise saying: We are judged by the company we keep.

A compelling argument can be made that Barack Obama exhibited poor judgment when he joined a controversial Black Nationalist church. He exposed himself, his wife and his children to a racist pastor who spewed his anti-American psychobabble and hate speech to his congregation.

Rev. Wright openly consorted with The Nation of Islam. He bestowed honors upon Louis Farrakhan. For nearly 30 years, Farrakhan has made himself a notable figure by making hateful statements, targeting Jews, other minorities and whites. Senator Obama has known all about Rev. Wright for twenty years, and to this day calls him his personal friend.

It still remains incumbent upon this presidential candidate to more clearly explain to all Americans why he remains in a church that continues to be a racial lightning rod.

Come Election Day, American voters will choose the candidate they believe is best suited to lead this country. We need to know everything about the person we elect to the highest office in the land.
