How Do They Stand on the REAL Issues? – Read Before You Vote
The American Family Association has released an excellent voter's guide that you should read carefully before you vote in the Super Tuesday primaries. I have included a link to the guide, so in this article I will only summarize some of the most important information.
In this guide the American Family Association lists eight issues on which the answer of any real Conservative should be a resounding "Yes!" Not surprisingly, none of the three Democrat candidates answered yes to a single one. I was surprised to find that only one Republican candidate had a perfect record. Mike Huckabee was for each of these important issues. More important, he has always been in favor of them. Not one of these was a new position for him.
Some of the issues are proposed legislation; some are proposed Constitutional amendments; some are simply moral positions, such as the refusal to participate in "Gay Pride" celebrations. (Both Romney and Giuliani have participated in these disgusting events "celebrating" homosexuality.)
The first test is whether a candidate supports a national Human Life Amendment. All the candidates claim to be pro-life, but only Mike Huckabee passed this test.
The next is whether a candidate supports a Federal Marriage Amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman only. This is a core Conservative issue. Any candidate who claims the title "Conservative" must not only favor this amendment; he must do everything in his power to pass it. Only Huckabee and Mitt Romney answered "Yes" to this one.
The next issue concerns gun rights. Since they can't get the outright ban on all guns that they want, the liberal left has been on a mission to gradually limit gun rights. Huckabee, John McCain and Ron Paul were in agreement on this one.
Number four was whether the candidate opposes laws forcing business to favor homosexuality. These are not laws that would take away rights from homosexuals. The laws that Conservatives oppose would give special rights to homosexuals that other citizens do not have. Huckabee, McCain and Paul got this one right.
The fifth was about whether the candidate has signed the Americans for Tax Reform Pledge to not raise taxes. For two decades, Americans for Tax Reform has asked all presidential and federal candidates to commit to their constituents, in writing, to oppose any and all efforts to raise income taxes. McCain is the only one of the five leading candidates to refuse to sign. (He had an ally in this refusal, Fred Thompson, but of course he is gone as a candidate now. I wonder if McCain will be forced to drop out because of this issue. Americans feel they are taxed enough already.)
NOTE. From the AFTR website: "Giuliani did not sign the Pledge per se, but has put in writing his commitment to oppose and veto all tax increases and the AFTR considers this to achieve the spirit and letter of the Pledge."
Huckabee, McCain and Paul have refused to support so-called "Gay Pride" celebrations. The voter's guide (LINK below) has documentary proof that both Romney and Giuliani have supported such events. In 2004, as governor Mitt Romney signed a proclamation celebrating "Gay Pride" that read in part, "Massachusetts is home to the Governor's Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, which supports the Commonwealth's gay and lesbian youth through school-based educational programs." In other words, he used taxpayer money to indoctrinate school children with the homosexual agenda.
Every candidate but Ron Paul opposes immediate removal of troops from Iraq. This is a radical position taken only by Paul among the Republicans, but Hilly, Obama and John Edwards all agree with him. Immediate removal of our troops would not only endanger our troops as they withdrew, but would also guarantee that Iraq would be overwhelmed by its terrorist neighbor Iran. The Mid-east would explode, Israel would be invaded and a World War could be triggered. Paul should be ashamed of himself.
Finally, Romney is the only Republican candidate who does not oppose school curriculums that promotes homosexuality. How this man can claim to be pro-family and still support "education" that is really homosexual propaganda is beyond me.
The final tally: On these eight Conservative issues, Rudy was right on only two, and Romney on three. McCain and Paul got it right 63% of the time. And only Mike Huckabee was 100% correct.
As you go to the polls on Super Tuesday, forget about their campaign rhetoric. Look at what they actually do, what they have voted for, and the public record they have amassed. The American Family Association has done America a great service by researching and documenting this voter's guide. The candidates can pretend they are Conservatives, but they cannot hide from their own words as documented by the AFA in this guide.
And forget about who you think is most "electable." Most of that is garbage spewed out by the media. As long as the Republicans nominate a real Conservative (not just someone who calls himself a Republican), both conservative Republicans and Democrats will rally around him. Vote your conscience. Vote for the man who is moral, honest, and shares your values. Don't waste your vote on a candidate you don't believe in because some blow-dried talking head on political television has convinced you he is the only one who can win the general election.
Any real Conservative can beat radical liberals like Hillary and Obama. Believe it or not, there are conservative Democrats. They voted for Ronald Reagan, and they will vote for a real Conservative Republican this time, because there would be a real difference between him and leftists like Clinton and Obama. But if we put a near-Democrat like McCain or Romney up against them, we will be cursed with a Democrat White House for at least four years.
