Pelosi's "No Energy, No Drilling" Bill
Why Oil Prices Are Rising Dramatically

In the late night of September 16, 2008, Pelosi-led House Democrats passed an "energy bill" that was designed to fool the American people into believing that Democrats had caved to Republican demands to "Drill Here, Drill Now!" Instead, the Pelosi "no energy" bill actually puts a permanent ban on offshore drilling within 50 miles of the shoreline and will, in fact, make it far more costly to extract only 10% of oil and gas resources. This could easily have fueled the appetite of speculators driving up oil prices.

Pelosi-led Democrats in Congress passed a sham "no energy" bill that they can tell their constituents is a compromise with Republicans to allow offshore drilling along the U.S. east and west coasts.

The truth? This bill was engineered as a propaganda stunt designed to relieve constituent pressure to drill as a consequence of Republican efforts to open up offshore drilling so that fuel and energy prices will be driven down and the U.S. will no longer have to pay nearly a trillion dollars a year to terrorist-supporting Middle Eastern nations and foreign dictators. Think about that. Democrat bans on offshore drilling force Americans to pay three to four times annually what the recent financial collapses are costing in a one-time effort to protect Americans from the dysfunctional financial market. And you're worried about the one-time comparatively trivial costs of bailing out Fannie Mae from the consequences of its being mismanaged for personal gain by a key Obama economic advisor? Voters need to get a better perspective and ignore the Leftwing media hype designed to elect Barack Hussein Obama.

Because Democrats have such a low esteem for their constitutents, they believe this sham of a bill will fool the public into believing that Democrats have given up their irrational opposition to exploiting U.S. domestic energy reserves.

The reality is quite the opposite of what deceiving Democrats would have you believe. Rather than lowering costs for energy and fuel, the Democrat bill will actually raise fuel and energy prices. How are prices raised by a bill that lifts an offshore drilling ban? Because the Democrat bill raises taxes and puts a permanent restriction on extracting billions of barrels of offshore domestic energy resources.

Knowing that 90% of easily obtained offshore energy (oil and gas) reserves are located within 50 miles of the shoreline, Democrats crafted a bill that makes the annual renewal of the offshore drilling ban permanent within 50 miles of the shoreline! While banning drilling where low cost rich resources exist, the Democrat bill lifts the ban on drilling beyond 50 miles from the shore with restrictions that states are required to approve leases between 50 and 100 miles, but those states wouldn't be permitted to share in the revenues! The real scam is that the convoluted bill reduces restrictions on extracting oil and gas where only 10% of reserves are located and the cost of extraction is far greater and would take far longer!

This move by House Democrats is clearly designed as an "in your face" snub of the public's demands that Congress lift their ban on using U.S. domestic reserves of oil and gas. The bill for annual renewal of the offshore ban must be passed in October. Republicans are working to try to get enough Democrats to join them to block the annual ban renewal. However, Tuesday evening's vote strongly suggests that there are not enough honorable Democrats in the House to support lifting the ban. Consequently, Democrats decided to fool the public with their sham of an energy bill which they'll claim will lift offshore drilling restrictions.

The Pelosi-led Democrat bill is a hoax on the American people -- it is a bill meant to fool voters into thinking Democrats are voting for real energy reform -- when, in fact, they are actually making the ban on offshore drilling permanent. As a likely consequence, one week after the Pelosi Bill passed in the dark of night, crude oil prices shot up to nearly $120/bbl.

This is just another of the consequences of putting far-Left Democrats in control of Congress. This is the thanks the public gets for believing Democrat campaign propaganda. Bills designed to fool the people while crippling the U.S. economy and perpetuating the rising cost spiral for fuel and energy. Of course, Democrats will just point the finger at "the oil companies" and the "Republicans." And their lap-dog media friends will simply report what Democrats want the public to believe. Josef Goebbels, Hitler's propaganda chief, would be proud of the dirty propaganda battle being waged against the American people by Leftist Democrats and their Leftist media cohorts.

Bear in mind that it was none other than Nancy Pelosi who told Tom Brokaw several times during a convention week interview that she thought natural gas was an excellent alternative to fossil fuel! Folks, this is the leader of the majority party in the House telling us all that, as a chief architect and promoter of Democrat energy legislation, she does not even know that natural gas is a fossil fuel! This is nothing short of astonishing.

What can you do to stop this Democrat lying and finger-pointing to escape responsibility for foolish legislation? Elect Republicans. Put an end to the far Left Democrat control over the U.S. Congress.

And while your voting, consider Thomas Sowell's recent column that should convince any sane person to shun any thought of putting Barack Hussein Obama any where near the White House.

One final thing. Don't just sit around being annoyed by all the Leftists in the Democrat Congress and the constant lying by Democrat campaigns who continually deflect criticism by calling their opponents liars (an old stunt designed to ward off scrutiny of their own positions). If you're energized by the constant Democrat deceit, get out there and help others make the right choices this November. And if you are a Democrat who feels betrayed by your own party's deceit, work hard to get good, solid Americans to join your party and lift it out of the cesspool of gutter politics into which it has descended.

Biography - Bob Webster

Author of "Looking Out the Window", an evidence-based examination of the "climate change" issue, Bob Webster, is a 12th-generation descendent of both the Darte family (Connecticut, 1630s) and the Webster family (Massachusetts, 1630s). He is a descendant of Daniel Webster's father, Revolutionary War patriot Ebenezer Webster, who served with General Washington. Bob has always had a strong interest in early American history, our Constitution, U.S. politics, and law. Politically he is a constitutional republican with objectivist and libertarian roots. He has faith in the ultimate triumph of truth and reason over deception and emotion. He is a strong believer in our Constitution as written and views the abandonment of constitutional restraint by the regressive Progressive movement as a great danger to our Republic. His favorite novel is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and believes it should be required reading for all high school students so they can appreciate the cost of tolerating the growth of unconstitutional crushingly powerful central government. He strongly believes, as our Constitution enshrines, that the interests of the individual should be held superior to the interests of the state.

A lifelong interest in meteorology and climatology spurred his strong interest in science. Bob earned his degree in Mathematics at Virginia Tech, graduating in 1964.
