A Glimpse of Heaven

Some people think that heaven consists only of angels floating on clouds and playing harps. There are heavenly beings. They will rejoice with our arrival.

Heaven does exist. Whoever enters will have a physical body and a real life. Our bodies will be free from disease, pain and death. (1 Corinthians 15:40-49)

In Revelation 21:1 Jesus said: "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea."

With all the bad news that we are confronted with daily, heaven is a good place to ponder and rest our weary minds. Yes, there are many tragedies in this world. The acts of cruelty by mankind alone is staggering. All one has to do is read the newspapers and watch the evening news to see what sin is all about.

A foretaste of a new heaven and a new earth.

Have you ever been in love? Have you ever felt that special bond that seems will never end? You found the love of your only soul mate. Well, that's a glimpse of heaven.

We were made for an intimate relationship with those we will be with forever. All who accept the true and living God will one day share fellowship in the love of Christ. In another place and time we will be able to talk to Christ, face to face to face and heart to heart.

Nature reveals the reality of heaven. Have you ever visited our national parks? The beauty of the tall Redwood trees and the grandeur of the high Sierras are magnificently breathtaking. Take a trip and see America first. We have the most beautiful country in all the world. You'll find a respite, the handiwork of a loving creator God, from sea to shining sea.

(John 14:2): Jesus Christ speaks of new homes (mansions) that He is going to prepare. God's people will plant vineyards and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Work will be a blessing. There will be no social progressive programs in the world made new.

We know of God's existence when we experience the random acts of kindness of others. I can relate to a real story that I had the privilege to write about.

A Marine named Lance Cpl. Aaron W. Simons was killed in a rocket attack in Northern Iraq. I wrote about this heroic man whose faith in Jesus Christ sustained him while fighting for his country and helping the people of Iraq.

Lance Cpl. Aaron W. Simons made a promise to a little Iraqi girl named Hamade. Little Hamade is receiving the best medical care because our troops took the time to made sure Aaron's promise was kept. These gracious, kind acts give us a foretaste of things to come.

One glorious day we will have the quality of life promised to us in His Word. Yes, heaven is a place were kindness, mercy and love resides, as well as perfect and eternal good health.

There is a city of goodness that awaits us. Its name is Jerusalem. In the city of the "new Jerusalem," no one will have to contend with Islamic extremists who want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. There will be no sinful thoughts where God abides.

"But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city." (Hebrews 11:16)

God will once again dwell with all mankind. The goodness of love is shared as we enjoy the new heaven and a new earth.

Celebrate Christmas as the miracle birth of Christ. But let us not forget the reason He came. He came to offer to all a free gift of salvation through His own perfect life. He came so we might have an abundant life, now and for all eternity.

John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her Husband. We have another reason to celebrate the joys of Christmas. Jesus lived and died, and rose again. Christ had His being here on this earth so we could see God in the flesh. Believe on Him and be saved.
