ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: DROPPING THE I-BOMB

"First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same. Secondly the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset. Contrary to the charges in some quarters, (the bill) would not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated deprived nations of Africa and Asia. In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think."

So spoke Senator Ted Kennedy, floor manager of the 1965 Immigration Act. Every assurance by Kennedy has been proven false, with the possible exception of his reference to a million immigrants annually. There could have been even more than he mentioned.

Certainly his estimate of the illegals here at that time was low. The number was put at about three hundred thousand. It turned out to be three million. Now, the estimates of illegals to be given amnesty is twelve million. If the same drastic underestimate is made this time, we could end up giving amnesty to twenty to forty million or up. Nobody knows how many are here illegally, since nobody is allowed to ask citizenship status. Even those who might have educated estimates because they keep government records, the IRS and the Social Security Administration, will not give our their numbers, citing “privacy” issues.

Now, Kennedy, with the assistance of some RINOs, has shepherded through an immigration bill that could be described as the 1986 amnesty bill....on steroids. In 1986 the country was assured that our borders would be secure and the illegal immigration would stop. The border is still wide open, for all intents and purposes. Across it flows illegal aliens, drugs, rapists, murderers, potential terrorists, and diseases that this country had long ago eradicated.

Kennedy and some of the same RINOs who touted the 1986 amnesty as being the last one, are now giving us the same bait and switch. If a used car salesman did this, he would end up in jail, and deservedly so. Still, we were fooled by promises that it would be the last time…..really, really last time before. The borders were never protected, as was promised, so now we end up with from twelve to forty million illegals in the country. Now, we have these same senators, joined by President Bush, advocating for the open borders crowd.

They have presented us with a fait accompli (millions of illegals parked here), and say we have to do the same things over again that got us so many. There were provisions in the last bill for a fence of about 700 miles. To date, only two miles have been built. The Homeland Security Department has billions of dollars to secure this country, but won’t spend any appreciable money to build a fence.

Meanwhile, in Iraq, where more sanity seems to reign, an expensive wall is being erected. The new U.S. embassy, reported to be the largest in the world, sits in Baghdad, surrounded by 15 foot thick perimeter walls. It was reported to Congress to have cost $592 million, so far. Walls work well overseas, but our own borders get no respect.

Perhaps the most transparent lie is that this bill is not amnesty. Its supporters keep repeating the mantra, but Americans know amnesty when they see it. They see through the admonition “Who are you going to believe, us or your lying eyes?” The illegals here get what they want, which is the right to stay here and do what they have been doing, minus the rare hassle of being investigated. No worries there any longer, and the so-called “sanctuary” status of cities and states will now apply all over the U.S.

There is a stipulation that a $5,000 fine must be paid, and the open borders crowd is yelling about that, saying it is too much for low-paid workers to pay. Meanwhile, these same workers send over $25 Billion a year “home” to Mexico, giving Mexico this income infusion, which puts it on a par with its two highest income producers, oil and tourism. Also, if an illegal used a coyote (smuggler) to lead him through the path to the U.S., most likely the amount paid was from $2,500 to $7,000 for this service.

Now that the senators have presented their amnesty plan, we know just what U.S. citizenship is worth: $5,000, or perhaps what can be negotiated down from our generous senators.

These plans for amnesty were formulated in secret, with most senators not being privy to the plans. However, those who did get to help form it are radical groups such as La Raza, and several representatives from the large corporations. The question to be asked is: “Who was representing We the People”?

Now, Senator Reid has said he wants to hurry up and get a vote on the bill. The plan considered last time ran to 700 pages. Those who should know say this plan could very well be 1,000 pages. That gives the senators three days to read and absorb it.

Nonetheless, several senators have said already they will support amnesty. Is your senator among them?
