9/11 Families Remind Us of the Bitter Fruits of Amnesty

Pesident Bush, on his recent trip to Mexico, stated that "The United States respects rule of law, but in the debate on immigration, I remind my fellow citizens that family values do not stop at the Rio Grande River".

That has been the president’s mantra as he has tried to get the American people to accept giving amnesty to the millions of Mexicans and others who have illegally crossed that Rio Grande River, flouting our rule of law. Family values may not stop there, but neither do people smugglers, drug smugglers, rapists, murderers, thieves, perpetrators of fraud, and potential terrorists.

Those who have the most bitter experience with our lack of security on the border are the 9/11 families, whose loved ones perished in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade buildings. They have warned legislators of the consequences of voting for an amnesty, what the president calls “comprehensive immigration reform”.

“If an amnesty for illegals is passed and you vote for it, whenever acts of violence are committed in your district or state by illegals who benefit from amnesty, 9/11 FSA members will go to your district to inform your constituents that your vote for amnesty allowed that crime to occur and that you are, in part, guilty for the injury done.” The Families of the Victims of September 11, 2001

So spoke the families of the victims of the attacks on September 11, 2001. They have warned the Congress of the United States against granting amnesty to the estimated 12 to 30 millions of illegal aliens in this country. They have alerted the rest of us, also. They said, in their press release of April 7, 2006, that “If amnesty is granted to illegal aliens (every one of whom has shown contempt for the laws of the United States) Americans will die as a result. The government is unable to distinguish terrorists, gang members and other felons from those illegal aliens who are ‘only’ violating immigration laws. All illegals must be encouraged to return to their home countries. Americans must and will know who is responsible for deaths resulting from amnesty that you support”.

Americans watched with disbelief and horror as the two trade towers came down. They could only imagine the scene inside the buildings as the fires closed in, burning everything there. They watched as human figures came out of those flames. The people in those buildings had to calculate whether they wanted to be burned alive or die in a fall they knew would be fatal.

It was devastating to hear the tapes of those brave and doomed souls on flight 93, those who took action to divert their plane down to ground, thereby saving lives at the destination the hijackers had determined. On the tapes we hear a woman pleading “I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die”. We hear other pleadings for mercy. It did no good against the stone hearts of those who had plotted in this country for that very moment. Some of the plotters had broken our immigration laws with impunity. Our agencies that were set up for detection of overstays, for instance, did not catch the people who later on committed the acts of terror. They were free to live here, learn to fly here and travel and communicate with one another to plot their acts of destruction. Americans who trusted their government to protect them died.

While these victims’ ordeals have been in the national public eye, many others have not. Many others have lost their lives to those who should never have been in this country in the first place. Some of those many were:

Two nuns, Sisters Chaska and Schoenhoefn, were accosted, raped and beaten by Maximiliano Cilerio Esparza, 32, in the U.S. illegally. Sister Helen Chaska died, reportedly with her rosary beads wrapped around and embedded into her neck. Esparza should never have been here to kill and rape.

Detective Hugo Arango, 24, of the Doroville Police Department, detained three suspects. As he searched for weapons, Bautista Ramirez shot Arango four times. The first shot took off a finger, the second went through his thigh. As he lay helpless, Ramirez shot a round through his badge, then executed him with a shot to his head. Ramirez was an illegal from Mexico. He should never have been in this country so he could kill one of our protectors.

Officer Marc Atkinson, 28, of the Phoenix Police Department, tailed suspects on drug detail. Seventeen year old Felipe Petrona-Cabana began firing his .357 caliber revolver. Atkinson, struck twice in the head, died the next day. All three suspects were illegal aliens from Mexico. They should never have been in this country so they could murder an officer of the law.

Dustin Inman’s family car was rear-ended at high speed, killing Dustin, putting his father, Billy, in a coma, and seriously injuring his mother. An illegal alien from Mexico, Gonzalo Harrell-Gonzalez, was driving the car that hit the Inmans. Gonzalez had a driver’s license obtained by using his birth certificate and the Matricula Consular card issued by Mexico. These cards are only needed by illegals, since those in the country legally have correct documents. Some states still issue drivers’ licenses obtained through showing the Matricula Consular card. Gonzalez should never have been in the U.S., should never have obtained a driver’s license, and should have never been in a collision with the Inmans. A son was lost to our lax regard for immigration laws.

In Charlotte, North Carolina Min Soon Chang, an eighteen year old UNCC student, had the fatal misfortune to meet an illegal alien driver. The illegal alien driver was charged with driving more than 100 mph the wrong way on I-485, killing Min Soon Chang. Also, Tony Grier, Afro-American, 49, while walking down a road, was hit and killed by Geronimo Leocadio Villa-Gomez., who veered off the road and hit Grier. Gomez’ blood alcohol level was .20. ICE says he was in the country illegally. These two met an untimely death due to two illegal alien drivers, who came and stayed in the country against our laws.

Angel Maturino Resendez, the notorious Railway Killer, was an illegal alien from Mexico who killed eleven people to steal money for alcohol and drugs. He raped some of the women before he brutally killed them The people in the area where he was on this rampage were terrified. He should never have been in this country to rape, steal, murder and terrorize law abiding citizens.

Now, our Senate wants to give amnesty to the several millions of illegal aliens who are here. There is no way of knowing who among them may turn out to be another Resendez. They will be given most of the rights citizens have. They will be entitled to welfare benefits, health care, Social Security, and in-state tuition and will be able to vote.

The Senate bills have contained these provisions. However, there have been no reports of a deterrent for anyone coming into the country illegally. In fact, the modest proposal by the last House of putting up a 700 mile fence has been neglected, and if any fencing is being done, it is meager and spotty. So, we are to leave the borders almost as open to any who want to come in. We are a victim-rich country, thanks to some of our Senators.

The press release by 9/11 Families for a Secure America stated : “The members of 9/11 Families for a Secure America remind their fellow Americans that after Congress gave amnesty to 3,000,000 illegal aliens in 1986, several of the illegals who were allowed to remain in the U.S.A. committed terrorist acts afterward. One of those amnestied illegals was the ringleader in the attempt to topple the World Trade Center in 1993.……..Therefore, the record proves that amnesty for illegals results in the deaths of Americans”.

Still, the president has spoken to Mexican citizens and told them that he will do everything he possibly can to pass “comprehensive” immigration reform.

We should join the 9/11 Families For a Secure America as they warn our lawmakers:

“Our loved ones died in 2001 because Congress and Presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush refused to secure our borders and enforce our laws inside our country. We will not permit other Americans to suffer as we have and allow those responsible to evade blame.”
