Changing The GOP Primary Paradigm
A Strategy For A Winning Team

Our nation is at the brink of disaster, one that could permanently destroy our constitutional republic. At these times we need a new approach to selecting a GOP candidate and building a party platform. A radical departure is needed from typical multi-candidate primaries interspersed with road-show circuses called "debates".

Our nation is at the brink of disaster, one that could permanently destroy our constitutional republic. We need a new approach to selecting a GOP candidate and building a party platform that produces the least chance for failure. We must pursue a fresh strategy that is a radical departure from the age-old process that features multi-candidate primaries interspersed with road-show circuses called "debates".

While the early selection process benefits from the multi-candidate forums called "debates", at some point in time these sideshows must yield to the more important process of selecting a nominee and building a party platform. We have reached the time when the GOP needs to get on with the real job of selecting its best ticket.

The selection of a strong GOP ticket and platform that will best focus on our nation's critical problems and have the greatest chance for success should now be the primary focus of GOP candidates.

To that end, the GOP should consider the following strategy as an alternate pathway to the best ticket and platform:

  1. Those GOP candidates whose actions and platforms have clearly shown they understand that failure to adhere to Constitutional restraints on federal power must take time from campaigning to meet privately without any public fanfare or announcement. These candidates would form the "unity team."

In alphabetical order, those candidates I believe are best-suited for the unity team are:

  2. At this meeting, each candidate would list the three initiatives they believe most critical to our nation at this time. The dozen most common concerns would form the basis for a straightforward platform for the ticket. Critical concerns of candidate will form the foundation upon which this platform is built.
  3. Candidates put aside their egos and make an honest assessment as to which of them has:

Based on these critical factors, the strongest Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates should be identified as the GOP "unity ticket" preferred by the "unity team" (those who participated in the unity meeting).
  4. Candidates not selected for the ticket should be offered the choice of a key cabinet position in the next administration (not to be made public at this time) or to continue serving in their current capacity.
  5. On the day of the announced GOP unity ticket, participating candidates will announce their withdrawal from the primary races in deference to and support for the unity ticket. Along with the unity ticket announcement, the unified twelve-point platform for the restoration of fiscal solvency and constitutionally-limited federal government will be made public.

Based on their selection of representatives to the GOP Convention, state primaries and caucuses would serve as yardsticks of support for the unity ticket and its platform.

This will be the most critical election in our nation's history. It will determine whether our nation reaffirms its founding principles and reestablishes limited constitutional governance. A continuation of federal excesses of the pasts 100 years will only accelerate the downward spiral of our nation to the depravity of socialism that preaches "take from the rich and give to the poor."

Will our nation turn from the path of "public greed" established over the past 100 years, or will it follow a bright new pathway to a future of unlimited opportunities for every citizen to forge their own pathway to personal fulfillment? The GOP must be the shining light to lead the way to a better future.

I strongly urge a serious consideration of the strategy outlined above. If you agree, please pass this along to GOP friends and candidates.

My next election commentary will address my own assessment of the best ticket and will outline a desperately needed change in the presidential debate format.

Biography - Bob Webster

Bob Webster, a 12th-generation descendent of both the Darte family (Connecticut, 1630s) and the Webster family (Massachusetts, 1630s) is a descendant of Daniel Webster's father, Revolutionary War patriot Ebenezer Webster, who served with General Washington. Bob has always had a strong interest in early American history, our Constitution, U.S. politics, and law. Politically he is a constitutional republican with objectivist and libertarian roots. He has faith in the ultimate triumph of truth and reason over deception and emotion. He is a strong believer in our Constitution as written and views the abandonment of constitutional restraint by the regressive Progressive movement as a great danger to our Republic. His favorite novel is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and believes it should be required reading for all high school students so they can appreciate the cost of tolerating the growth of unconstitutional crushingly powerful central government. He strongly believes, as our Constitution enshrines, that the interests of the individual should be held superior to the interests of the state.

A lifelong interest in meteorology and climatology spurred his strong interest in science. Bob earned his degree in Mathematics at Virginia Tech, graduating in 1964.
