More Freedom/Tax Dollars Down the Drain
Government Mandates Based on Fiction
While the drumbeat of the uninformed/misinformed media continue to pound away the climate alarmist mantra that human emissions of greenhouse gases are responsible for what most climatologists recognize as perfectly normal climate variability, Congressional scientific illiterates consider a "Cap and Trade" bill that would have the effect of raising income taxes an average of 15% for every American household.
As if the notion that our federal government should be in charge of our health care weren't expensive and disastrous enough, putting the federal government in charge of energy production and distribution simply raises the stakes that much higher.
We the People must not allow this Congress to continue ignoring scientific reality and common sense. The costly mistakes of the current administration, coupled with Congress's inability to control its appetite for spending, are putting this country in grave danger. Our elected officials are committing high treason against our Constitution by ignoring its clear restraint on government power. There is no constitutional authority for the federal government to take over health care in any form, particularly in a plan that would make it illegal for anyone to not have health insurance! What are they going to do? Throw people in jail for not having health insurance? The current Congress and administration are a travesty and clear demonstration of the danger of allowing any instance of federal extra-constitutional power.
Our climate system is very complex and responds to many different stimuli. Yet a relatively small band of individuals with a political agenda have proclaimed that human emissions of greenhouse gases are poised to cause "catastrophic" global warming based on nothing but their own fantasy. Despite these bold claims repeated often in the media, there is not one single scientific study that has ever been successful in identifying a human component to average global temperature. Not one!
Over the course of a perfectly natural short term climate warming, various "studies" have offered a theory that anthropogenic global warming (human-caused global warming), AGW, is due to emissions of greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide from fossil fuel burning. Without even noting the normal warming trend, nor investigating any causes of such normal warming, the climate alarmists ("warmers") have simply claimed without scientific support that such warming was caused by human emissions of CO2. But the simplistic model they want you to accept, that "more CO2 = ever warmer planet", is simply not true.
Greenhouse gases have never been the cause of climate change in the history of Earth's climate. In every measure of climate and greenhouse gases, the greenhouse gases follow changes in global temperature. Consequently, it is global temperature changes that lead to changes in greenhouse gases, not the other way around, as claimed by the warmers.
So now we read a report in USA Today (Fuel-economy rules set 35.5 mpg standard for 2016 models) that informs us:
The government announced tough new fuel-economy standards Tuesday in a proposed rule that also would place the first nationwide limits on vehicles' greenhouse gas emissions, blamed for global warming.
Note the gratuitous addition, "blamed for global warming" as if it were a certainty!
Ironically, if we knew little of greenhouse gases and scientists were investigating causes for warming/cooling phases in Earth's climate, they would have much more powerful evidence linking climate change to natural variability in solar activity, Earth's orbital characteristics, astroid/meteor/comet impacts, and volcanic activity/plate tectonics that dramatically change Earth's geology. Indeed, the evidence suggests that solar activity cycles have had a dominant impact on Earth's climate cycles during much of the Holocene (interglacial) warming. The impact of human emissions of greenhouse gases on climate change would never occur to anyone because the evidence is overwhelming that natural factors dominate climate change.
Nevertheless, school children continue to be miseducated and frightened into believing the absurd predictions of warmers whose real goal is ever-larger funding for primitive alternate fuel schemes that are not competitive with abundant of fossil fuels.
Parents need to monitor what children are taught and, if necessary, assure that their children are properly informed of the real facts about climate change.
A number of good books exist that are easy for non-scientists to understand and suitable for children. See WEBCommentary's Climate Page for a list of books near the bottom of the page.
If we allow this out-of-control Congress to pass a "Cap and Trade" monster and continue to allow the EPA to run wild with their absurd greenhouse gas regulation schemes, our inaction will seal the fate of todays children and all future generations. Their freedom will be lost and the financial costs of losing that freedom will be monumental. Such a burden is most likely to result in the US becoming a second or third-rate power with rapidly dropping standards of living and rapidly increasing unemployment, poverty, and misery. That is the legacy of those who sit idly by and allow our cherished Constitution to be ignored by a government determined to be ruled by lust for power and scientific ignorance.
You must get involved. Go to your Senators' websites and sent them a comment telling them that they are violating their oath of office to defend our Constitution by their continual legislating in areas such as Cap and Trade and National Healthcare for which there is no Constitutional authority and which We the People oppose.

Biography - Bob Webster
Bob Webster, a 12th-generation descendent of both the Darte family (Connecticut, 1630s) and the Webster family (Massachusetts, 1630s) is a descendant of Daniel Webster's father, Revolutionary War patriot Ebenezer Webster, who served with General Washington. Bob has always had a strong interest in early American history, our Constitution, U.S. politics, and law. Politically he is a constitutional republican with objectivist and libertarian roots. He has faith in the ultimate triumph of truth and reason over deception and emotion. He is a strong believer in our Constitution as written and views the abandonment of constitutional restraint by the regressive Progressive movement as a great danger to our Republic. His favorite novel is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and believes it should be required reading for all high school students so they can appreciate the cost of tolerating the growth of unconstitutional crushingly powerful central government. He strongly believes, as our Constitution enshrines, that the interests of the individual should be held superior to the interests of the state.
A lifelong interest in meteorology and climatology spurred his strong interest in science. Bob earned his degree in Mathematics at Virginia Tech, graduating in 1964.
