The Fourth Estate is the Fifth Column
Part 2 of 2

It was in 1976 that a Gallup poll indicated 7 out of 10 Americans trusted the press. As reported in a recent U. S. News magazine article the trust changed. A recent Pew Research study found that 53% of Americans do not trust what news organizations report. In addition a 2002 American Bar Association survey found that the only profession inspiring less public confidence than its own was the press. It reported that "The public sees the media as self-centered and self-promoting."

When you have an industry whose idol is Joseph Pulitzer, an individual who set integrity standards so low that they are hardly a blip on the morality monitor, then you note a profession which couldn't help but give birth to a credibility problem. As the media moved to the far left and continued its deceptive practices conversely consumer confidence diminished.

The news industry is aware that it is not operating in a vacuum. It is piggy backing on the sizeable portion of the products produced from our public education system. A system replete with corrupted educational progressives. It fully understands that the less knowledgeable the citizenry is in American and world history, coupled with the values of the American free enterprise system, the more prominence and influence it will hold in conventional thought and action. It is acutely aware that in the last half century we have been educating generations of students who are historically ignorant and intellectually sterile which is an unfathomable illiteracy of the basic mores and philosophical foundations of our Constitutional Republic.

In today's conflict where preemptive warfare is committed to keeping the enemy off our soil we find that a leftist communications media has joined with a leftist democratist party to aid and abet the enemies of our nation. It has gotten to the point where every time the Democratists yelp the news media yips and we find them continually yapping together. Al-Qaida or the Taliban or any of the rabble whom we continue to unearth from under the rocks have no need for a CIA or an FBI of their own. The Democratists continue to console them thus giving them courage and the media continues to present to them through our news print and television where our security weaknesses are located.

You will remember that in the Persian Gulf War, General Norman Schwarkopf was forced to give the newspaper reporters and the TV news journalists misleading information in order to thwart their continual warnings to the enemy of our plans and strategies. There was a day when we recognized treason but not today

Information concerning the beheadings of Nick Berg, Paul Johnson and Kim Sun I1 entered the ho-hum category as compared to the days and weeks of outrageous output regarding the Abu Ghraib episode. Headlining each American death and writing disparagingly has been another media strategy to deprecate our leadership and pull our attention from the needs of a preemptive war which will tend to keep the enemy off our soil... This so-called main stream media continues to overlook the thousands upon thousands of women and children placed into slavery and/or slaughtered in parts of Africa. Not when Abu Ghraib and alleged dismal local conditions can be highlighted. The killings and the slaughter being committed each day in places such as Kenya, North Ossetia, Rwanda, The Sudan. Yemen, Jakarta and throughout the globe might be found in the back pages as Anti-American Muslims rather than Muslim terrorists murdering Muslims. Since their anarchic and inhuman behavior can't be directly blamed on the United States then it is incumbent that they be lost in the back pages. Finding any means to castigate our country and our military is a continual and joyful event for our Leftists of yellow journalism. The tragedy is that these people have given a first class loyalty to a second class cause and in time it will destroy them both.

In terms of writing the news accurately our media has a history of continued deception and fabrication of anything considered newsworthy. Even to the point of siding with foreign powers against its own country. It is a doom and gloom industry. It continually paints the worst and most sordid stories in order to sway the public to its tune of the moment. Headlines are tilted to the negative at every opportunity and the crescendo to blasting the American government has increased steadily and especially in the last 4 years.

This is in complete harmony with the goals of the present leftist party. This union between the major communications media and the leftist Democratist party indicates that it can no longer justify its existence as a legitimate news source with even a modicum of honor or integrity. It has sold its soul. It has been bought and wrapped..

It is truly odd that this medium would align itself with the leftist forces which would destroy it once they gain power. It is truly odd that these people are not aware of what Lenin stated as noted in the 1956 Nieman Reports, "Why should freedom of speech and freedom of the Press be allowed? Why should a government which is doing what it believes is right allow itself to be criticized?

It is unfair and a disservice to paint all the media with this broad brush since this moment's unscientific research would indicate that there are approximately 20% who still do their jobs with integrity and with good conscience. There may be more but in the present culture of this perverted phenomenon titled political correctness they have been kept fearful and underfoot.

As he evaluated the weak from the strong in our country, Thomas Paine wrote "These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."

Our fourth estate, in terms of presenting the news fairly and accurately is an absolute disgrace.
