Senators Boxer and Edwards mount a scare campaign on global warming that reveals their gross ignorance about climate change.
Within the past few days I've received e-mail messages from both Sen. Boxer and Sen. Edwards who echo the monumental ignorance of former VP Al Gore with respect to climate and climate change.
Here is part of the scare campaign e-mail message from Boxer:
Over the coming weeks, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will continue to hold hearings on legislative approaches to combat global warming.
An increase in temperature of just 2.2 degrees Fahrenheit from today's levels could eventually mean widespread flooding of coastal areas in our country, Europe, Asia, and all over the globe. It also will mean more frequent extreme weather conditions like hurricanes, heat waves, and droughts, evidence of which we're already starting to see. What's more, global warming left unchecked could become a major cause of unrest and war, with hungry refugees adding to the nightmarish scenarios that come with water shortages, floods, food insecurity, and increased disease.
The time to act is now. As Al Gore has pointed out, global warming may be an inconvenient truth, but nonetheless it is the truth. Now we must do what Americans have always done when faced with a broad challenge -- face it and act. And I say act with hope not fear.
Boxer's message was followed closely by Edwards' that contained the following:
Global warming isn't a problem our children will face—it's a reality today and it’s accelerating much faster than ever predicted.
We cannot wait until the next president is elected to begin to take action on global warming. We all must take responsibility and do our part to stop global warming today—even if the current government refuses to act.
Note the use of scare tactics by both Senators in an attempt to motivate.
I responded to both these message knowing that nobody will pay any attention because these Senators are not interested in anything but abusing real science to their own political ends. Nevertheless, if just one staffer actually takes the time to read and think, perhaps a light will go on.
Here is my reply to Edwards:
I have received a copy of your recent e-mail making the following claim about "global warming":
On Mar 13, 2007, at 6:55 PM, John Edwards wrote:

Are you aware that your entire e-mail and particularly the above statements demonstrate that you have no more knowledge of climate change than do Sen. Boxer or Al Gore?
If you had even a smattering of knowledge about real climate change, you would know:
Global warming is as perfectly natural as global cooling. Climate has changed countless times before and it will continue to change countless times in the future. It is perfectly normal for climate to change.
The natural state of climate is for it to change.
The greenhouse effect is far from the most significant of the forces that change climate change.
Carbon dioxide is far less important as a greenhouse gas than water vapor.
Human produced carbon dioxide represents only a very small fraction of the total natural carbon dioxide produced EACH YEAR. Natural carbon "sinks" absorb carbon dioxide and while the balance may show a small increase in carbon dioxide as a percentage of atmospheric gas, that change is well within historic boundaries and is not even close to falling outside historic levels nor capable of being responsible for global warming.
There is no credible evidence that human burning of fossil fuels has any significant impact on climate.
If the temperature of the globe increases by "just 2.2 degrees Fahrenheit from today's levels" as Sen. Boxer suggests, it will be due to normal climate forcings.
It is not within the power of humans to change climate even if they tried.
All of the above can be verified by the large volume of work documented by real climatologists (not pretenders like Al Gore).
Your stance on climate change reveals your gross ignorance of scientific reality and climate history.
Given that climate is always in a state of change, just who is to say what Earth's correct temperature should be at any particular time? Think about that question and you will gain some insight into how silly this global warming issue has become.
It is unreasonable for politically-motivated Senators who have staked out a scare campaign to leverage political advantage to stop and think about the danger and disservice they perform by sending such scare tactic messages to their followers.
While Senators may be incapable of real thought, you are capable of thinking and doing your own research to verify the emptiness of the Gore-Boxer-Edwards campaign to cripple the American economy using a fear campaign about global warming.
Don't be fooled by the doomsayers spreading their ignorance about climate change.
Author of "Looking Out the Window", an evidence-based examination of the "climate change" issue, Bob Webster, is a 12th-generation descendent of both the Darte family (Connecticut, 1630s) and the Webster family (Massachusetts, 1630s). He is a descendant of Daniel Webster's father, Revolutionary War patriot Ebenezer Webster, who served with General Washington. Bob has always had a strong interest in early American history, our Constitution, U.S. politics, and law. Politically he is a constitutional republican with objectivist and libertarian roots. He has faith in the ultimate triumph of truth and reason over deception and emotion. He is a strong believer in our Constitution as written and views the abandonment of constitutional restraint by the regressive Progressive movement as a great danger to our Republic. His favorite novel is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and believes it should be required reading for all high school students so they can appreciate the cost of tolerating the growth of unconstitutional crushingly powerful central government. He strongly believes, as our Constitution enshrines, that the interests of the individual should be held superior to the interests of the state.
A lifelong interest in meteorology and climatology spurred his strong interest in science. Bob earned his degree in Mathematics at Virginia Tech, graduating in 1964.
